John Woodyard, 27, was arrested early on Thursday, Feb. 13, after deputies say he traveled farther off-road, through a fence, and came to rest in an area yard.
The incident began around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, when deputies responded to an auto accident on Woodford Drive, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators determined Woodyard was eastbound on Primmer House Road when he failed to turn at Leeland Road, instead plowing straight down an embankment into the backyard of a home.
No injuries were reported.
When deputies made contact with Woodyard, the situation quickly worsened, officials said. A search of his pockets turned up suspected controlled substances wrapped in a folded $20 bill, the sheriff’s office said.
Although Woodyard was not found to be impaired, he was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and reckless driving.
Woodyard was booked at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held on a $2,000 bond.
